100th Anniversary Schooner sailboat S/V ATREVIDA

We are pleased to share an exciting story from the International nautical world: the Schooner Sailboat Atrevida, designed by Nataniel Herreshoff in 1923, celebrated its centenary in 2023, after being gloriously reborn to become a true work of art.

Atrevida while cruising the Brazilian coastal waters initially sailed in the loving hands of the traditional Fontoura and Mourandrade families.

When acquired by a foreign business group, it almost sank in Rio de Janeiro and subsequently remained abandoned dry in the yard of a shipyard in the city of Niterói. (Rio de Janeiro)

Right after the turn of the century, the tired S/V ATREVIDA was presented by two friends, Auro Mourandrade and Manoel Chaves, to Mr. Gilberto Miranda.

From that minute on, the dream of rescuing the soul of such a beautiful schooner, took place.

With the support and enthusiasm of Gilberto Miranda together with Manoel Chaves from the shipyard MCP Yachts, the efforts of restoring the S/V ATREVIDA emerged, rescuing her from a deplorable state. First, the holes in the hull were closed, the vessel launched into the water and towed to Santos. In the port of Santos she was lifted by a floating crane and placed at the MCP YACHTS shipyard. In contacts with the Herreshoff Museum and the renowned M.I.T institute, the original plans were obtained in Bristol, USA. So, a skilled team of professionals embarked on an intensive 14-month work. With dedication and precision, they carried out a painstaking restoration of the exterior and interior, bringing the sailboat back to its glory former, true in each single detail to the original design.

In July 2005, the grand launch was successfully completed, marking the triumphant rebirth of Atrevida. Since then, she has sailed majestically through the waters of the Caribbean and South America, leaving everyone in awe with her undeniable beauty and impressive performance. Participating in nautical events and regattas, the Atrevida displays a timeless elegance that captivates everyone who has the privilege of witnessing its imposing presence.

As a blessing, the S/V ATREVIDA continues to cut national and international waters, now in the loving hands of the Alexandre and Daniella Ferrari family under the reins of our friend Captain Atila Bohm.

The sailboat Atrevida is a physical proof of what passion and affection, cherished by people sensitive to naval traditions, can rescue from the precious relics of the past. Finally, a unique piece of art, a testament to an entire century, full of stories and lives... owning Atrevida is like experiencing a portal in the space-time universe on every sailing.
